Higher Ground - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Remember when the Red Hot Chili Peppers were a rock and funk band, all about the fast, hard music? Yeah, me too. Good times, they were. Then they went all 'radio friendly' and mature. Can't scare the old folks anymore... To me, this cover of Stevie Wonder's 'Higher Ground' came on the tail end of that chapter in the RHCP story. It was released off the 1989 album 'Mother's Milk', and was named by Total Guitar magazine as the second greatest cover song ever in 2000. Stevie originally recorded the song in 1973 for his 'Innervisions' album. The song reached number four on the US Pop Singles chart and number one on the US Hot Soul Singleschart. It well know for it's unique wah-clavinet sound. The song has also appeared on soundtracks and in movies after it became popular. But seriously-Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Guitar Hero, and The Pursuit of Happyness and some dirty no-talent Idol hacks 'interpreting it'? Why, Anthony, why? And you, too Stevie... Must wash dirtiness off hands and out of ears...
